Graham Allen MP " New Basford Hall symbolises Nottm North fight back for its young people

Basford Hall is to get its official opening today, with local MP Graham Allen having the honour cutting the ribbon.

After a long and hard-fought community campaign led by Graham and local councillors,Basford Hall was saved from being closed down and flogged off for housing in 2007.We then set the vision of rebuilding a modern facility for local young people and having worked hard for 5 years to secure the £20 M needed the campus has now been totally rebuilt providing a first class education facility in the heart of an under skilled constituency. We need it as the centre piece in tackling the second lowest level of skills and training in the UK.The campus offers a wide range of courses including construction skills like brickwork , plastering, painting and carpentry to animal care, Health&Social care to forensic sciences.

The ceremony will take place today Wednesday 22nd June at 3pm.

Graham said: “As a governor of the old Basford Hall technical college in 1986 and a leader of the Save Basford Hall campaign nine years ago it will be a huge pleasure to officially open the new campus. We campaigned long and hard over the years to save our college and it gives me huge pride to see it rebuilt as a beautiful facility for our young people and a symbol of hope for our community.

We have the second lowest skills rate in the country so have rolled up our sleeves and are doing something about it .

The next step is to use the remaining land for a "University of Health" and a Feasability study is underway to set out this next phase. .

For one of the most deprived parts of the country, the new campus and its further development will have a significant and visible impact. Basford Hall will help hundreds of our youngsters each year get the skills and training they need to embark on their careers.

It is a very proud day for me and our Nottingham North Communities."
