“Tomorrow (Friday) our local Nottm North charity the Rebalancing the Outer Estates Foundation and I will be meeting with Julia Unwin the Chief Executive of the doyen of UK charities  the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. We will discuss how to tackle social inequality, exclusion and disadvantage in Nottm North. This is the first step which may herald a great opportunity to tackle the poverty and lack of opportunities in my constituency.” said Graham Allen MP

Joseph Rowntree Foundation, which was established over 100 years ago, is an independent organisation working to inspire social change through research, policy and practice. It seeks to understand the root causes of social problems, to identify ways of overcoming them, and to show how social needs can be met in practice.

“I am very proud of what Rebalancing the Outer Estates has achieved in just over a year of running. We have helped people to get a job, improve their health and insure that children at school get extra help. But learning from an organisation like the Joseph Rowntree Foundation would be a fantastic opportunity to significantly step up our efforts in tackling deprivation in my constituency.

The foundation is committed to tackle poverty and to improve the areas  in Nottingham North which is the fourth most deprived constituency in the UK. I am very much looking forward to renewing my friendship with Julia Unwin, who is one of the nation’s foremost thinkers on low pay and poverty in the UK and has had a very successful and impressive career in the voluntary sector. Rebalancing will be presenting our work so far and discussing the ways our two organisations could cooperate.” added Graham.
