The Beckhaptom mums achieved their GSCEs despite all the odds
“I am delighted that I have been invited to present all the hard working mums from the Beckhampton Centre with their GCSE certificates. It is truly remarkable what those young women have been able to achieve thanks to the Beckhampton Centre while going through one of the most life changing and challenging experience of their lives.” said Graham Allen MP
Despite the recent news that the City Council is thinking about closing the Centre down, this Friday December 18th at 11.00am at the Centre on Beckhampton Road, Bestwood Park it will be all about those teen mums as their family and friends come together to celebrate their GCSE results. “I believe –as the Council have believed for over 15 years- that these young Mum's and their babies would not be able to do as well if they were put into the general school population without the specialist care and education that Beckampton provides"
It is a great opportunity to see the importance of the Beckhampton Centre, for those mums, their babies, and for our community. Not only we will be able to appreciate the benefits of the Centre, we will be also see what we are going to lose if on 4th March our campaign to persuade the City Council to keep the Centre open is not successful.
“I remember when I was going through my GCSEs how difficult and stressful time it was for me and I realise still is for most teenagers. Being father myself, I can’t imagine what it must be like to deal with your baby and studying for GCSEs at the same time when you don’t have the safe network and resources which you often have when you are an adult. I have a huge respect for those teen mums and the staff at the Beckhampton Centre without which those young mums might not have get the same opportunity to achieve GCSE qualification.” Graham added.
