Graham Discusses the Impact of Disability Fund Closure for Nottingham

Graham met with the Tory Disability Minister, Esther McVey to discuss the closure of the UK’s Independent Living Fund HQ in Nottingham and its impact on the City. More than 120 people are employed at the office which provides financial support to severely disabled people. The government says it will only support the fund until 2015. Moving Towards Energy Tariff Crackdown

Graham Allen is supporting new proposals to require energy suppliers to simplify their fees. Nottingham North MP Graham Allen has welcome proposals to make energy suppliers simplify their tariffs. Mr Allen said: "Anything that simplifies the system for people and also allows them to change provider when providers are putting prices up unnecessarily is to be welcomed. "My constituency has very high fuel poverty. We have lots of people on low incomes and lots of elderly people, so it seems like potentially it could be very good news at a time when there is bad news about fuel prices going up." Read more >

Asda Brings 600 New Jobs to Bulwell

A new Asda distribution centre will be opening in Bulwell. The 120,000 square foot centre, located on Blenheim Industrial Estate is expected to open by March of this year. This building, which will be a home shopping base, will create the need for 600 employees in areas such as shop floor workers and drivers. Graham said: “Six hundred jobs in Bulwell is indeed excellent news. I shall be urging ASDA to recruit locally and in particular to recruit youngsters. Youth Unemployment in my constituency runs at twice the national average and figures out this week suggest that the number of youngsters out of work locally has tripled over the last five years. Grand Opening of Top Valley Academy

Graham was honoured to officially open Top Valley Academy on Friday 12 October. Students and children from the community enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon complete with an ice skating arena, climbing wall, go karts, numerous inflatable activities, and more. Later in the evening a reception was held for the adults, offering champagne to the local parents, teachers, and members of the community. He stated, “It was both a privilege and honour to be the Guest of Honour at the opening of such an impressive local school...It is inspirational schools like this that will allow our children in our community to flourish and excel.It was a very exciting day celebrating its success and I had great fun spending it with its teachers, staff, and children.” Read more >
