400 more Job Seekers’ Allowance claimants in Nottingham North

There are almost 400 more people out of work and claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance in Nottingham North than this time last year.

 

12.9% of the economically active population in the area are now out of work, making Nottingham North the constituency with the 11th highest unemployment rate.  The national unemployment rate is 5.5%.  The total number of unemployment benefit claimants in the constituency currently stands at 5,410.

 

Graham Allen MP said, “I am especially concerned about the million-plus young people who are out of work and education. We need to make sure that more jobs are created to get people back into work.”

 

There are at least 1,825 young people in North Nottingham that are looking for work; this accounts for 16.3% of 18 – 24 year olds in the area.  This is 130 more young people than this time last year.
